Danes widen drinks packaging deposit net
One-way alcopops and cider containers are to be included in Denmark's deposit-and-return system for drinks packaging from next month. The change brings these products into line with beer and soft drinks, for which the scheme was introduced three years ago (EED 27/08/02). Discarded alcopops containers in particular had become a growing problem since their relatively recent introduction, environment minister Connie Hedegaard said in a statement. The industry has been given until 1 August to comply. See press release.
