Sweden advances Weee implementation
Sweden has announced that it is to respect the August deadline set by the EU electroscrap recycling (Weee) directive for introducing producer responsibility and equipment take-back provisions, thereby stealing a march on other EU countries which have deferred or look likely to defer compliance (EED 04/04/05). Sweden had already established producer responsibility for electroscrap, putting it "in the forefront in the EU" as regards electroscrap collection, the environment ministry said on Thursday. The country already recovers 11kg per person per year against the EU target of 4kg, it noted. See press release.
