Ireland close to transposing Weee directive

Irish environment minister Dick Roche on Friday published draft regulations transposing the EU electroscrap (Weee) directive and related RoHS law restricting hazardous substances in manufacture. Consultations close on 16 May, approaching a year after the legal deadline (EED 18/08/04). The government is introducing a two-year delay (to 31 December 2008) for reaching the directive's collection and recycling targets. On the other hand, it is applying producer responsibility on time, from 13 August this year, whereas some other member states have postponed this by a year (EED 04/04/05). See press release.
