EU plans radical shake-up of pesticide approvals

The European Commission has circulated draft proposals to radically revise EU rules for evaluating and authorising new pesticides. The aim is to boost environmental and health protection while "keeping the market attractive to industry". But the plans, which are scheduled to emerge formally as draft legislation in September, are already provoking industry disquiet.
