Icelandic environmental strategy under debate

Iceland's environmental policy priorities for the next three years were debated at an assembly organised by the environment ministry on Friday and Saturday. According to the environment ministry the main thrust should be continued implementation of the country's 2002 sustainable development strategy. It is proposing measures to increase producer responsibility for waste, end imports of refrigerators and freezers containing ozone-depleting substances by 2010 and to implement the UN Stockholm convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
