Norway joins calls for stricter Reach controls

Norwegian environment minister Helen Bjørnøy has urged Britain as current EU president to follow through on its expressions of support for tougher regulation of the most hazardous chemicals under Reach. In a telephone conversation with UK environment minister Lord Bach, Ms Bjørnøy also called for a more robust approach on chemical registration and on transparency issues, the ministry said. The minister is planning a similar chat with EU industry commissioner Günter Verheugen for Friday. Non-EU member Norway is subject to most EU legislation through the EEA agreement and EFTA.
