Ivory Coast disaster firm to sue lawyers
The Dutch commodities firm Trafigura, whose vessel the Probo Koala has been implicated in a toxic waste incident in the Ivory Coast, is to sue a London law firm that has launched compensation proceedings on behalf of victims. In a statement this week Trafigura said Leigh Day was guilty of defamation in a press release claiming the firm was responsible for deaths and injuries. Trafigura says it acted properly during the incident, which has prompted moves to revise EU law on environmental crime (EED 23/10/06). See releases from Trafigura and Leigh Day.
