Council adopts radioactive shipment rules

EU farm ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday rubber-stamped new rules on cross-border shipments of radioactive waste.  The revision introduces a right of consent for receiving states and extends controls to nuclear spent fuel (EED 21/12/05).  In other business, a German proposal to review "old" active substances in the 1991 pesticide directive was backed by several countries.   Ministers also debated aid for energy crops and a commission plan to halt biodiversity loss (EED 22/05/06).  Some participants called for stricter controls to keep non-authorised GMOs off the market.  See council minutes.
