UK announces imminent WEEE implementation

The British government has published regulations implementing the EU’s electroscrap – or WEEE - directive into national law. The rules are expected to gain parliamentary approval this month and enter force on 1 January. The UK is the last EU member state to transpose the directive, which was adopted in 2002. The new rules will establish a national distributor take-back scheme with a network of designated collection facilities, in line with proposals circulated in the summer (EED 26/07/06).
