Czechs ponder legal action over carbon cap
The Czech Republic is considering suing the European commission over its decision last week to cut the carbon permits available to firms from 2008, its industry minister has announced (EED 26/03/07). Neighbour Slovakia launched a lawsuit against the commission last month (EED 08/02/07). The commission is also facing legal challenges from companies in Germany, the UK and Slovakia over the amount of allowances granted to them, the commission revealed on Monday. But an official said the commission was not responsible for these caps since installation-level allocations are decided by governments. See Czech news article (in English).
