Efsa delivers positive opinion on GM maize
The European food safety authority (Efsa) issued a positive assessment of genetically modified maize 59122 for import to the EU as food or animal feed on Monday. The variety has been engineered to resist the corn rootworm. It was developed by US firms Pioneer and Dow and is already grown commercially in America. Efsa was asked to assess its safety for food and feed uses but not for cultivation. It has found it to be as safe as non-GM maize. See Efsa opinion.
