It's "Yo, heave-ho!" for Swedes on sunken wrecks

The Swedish agency for public management has been commissioned to draw up guidelines on liability for the clean-up of wrecked and abandoned ships and other vessels.  The move is "a necessary first step" for minimising pollution risks from sunken wrecks and reducing coastal debris, environment minister Andreas Carlgren said on Wednesday.  The ministry said the need for clear rules had only recently been recognised.  Previous problems had been tackled on an ad hoc basis.  The plan is unconnected to new EU environmental liability rules (EED 18/10/07).  See environment ministry press release (Swedish).
