UK government pledges air travel carbon offsets
The UK government is to offset all its carbon dioxide emissions from air travel under a scheme investing in emission reduction projects through the Kyoto protocol's clean development mechanism (CDM). The environment ministry claimed the initiative would be the first of its kind. Norway and Finland were following suit, it said. The first projects were announced on Thursday. Britain is keen to expand carbon trading across the world, an agenda it will be pushing at the UN's December climate talks in Bali. See environment ministry press release.
