Nine states taken to EU court over liability law

Nine EU member states are being taken to the European court of justice for failing to transpose a 2004 directive on environmental liability.  Austria, Belgium, Greece, Finland, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and the UK have failed to transpose the directive into national law, the European commission said on Thursday.  France adopted the directive this week.  Meanwhile, Slovakia and Italy have been sent final warnings for failing to implement EU maritime safety rules.  See infringement actions on liability and maritime safety.
