EU to approve new POPs waste treatment method
The European commission has tabled draft legislation that would allow EU metal producers to treat production waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs) on-site instead of having to send it to specialist waste facilities. The move is designed to enable producers to recover valuable metals and metal compounds from waste residues. Ministers are expected to approve the proposals shortly.
