UK biofuel stats reveal sustainability deficit
Less than one-fifth of biofuels sold in the UK over four weeks in April and May met national sustainability standards, according to a first market report from the British renewable fuels agency. Released on Thursday, the report shows that 19 per cent of fuels met standards, well short a indicative 30 per cent goal. The biofuels yielded carbon savings of 42 per cent, but this figure did not include emissions from indirect land-use changes. The UK recently scaled down its biofuel ambitions (EED 07/07/08). See press release and market report.
