Portugal plans electronic bourse for waste trade
Portugal’s environment ministry has announced plans to create a centralised electronic platform for trading non-hazardous waste. The initiative will operate along similar lines to existing markets in France, the Netherlands and Catalonia in Spain. It will aim to "rationalise the allocation of resources, reduce costs and the demand for raw materials and potentially promote industrial symbioses," according to a ministry call for proposals. The market should be self-financing and compatible with integrated waste management models, the ministry said. See Portuguese environment agency call for proposals.
