UK local authorities get climate action advice
The UK's Local government association (LGA) has published guidance aimed at showing local authorities how best to tackle climate change using existing statutory powers. In a new report the LGA says authorities can harness a combined spending power of GBP70bn (€89bn) towards climate-friendlier goods and services. It also sets out the "popular and less well-known" powers that council have to mitigate and adapt to climate change, including a discretionary power to promote "wellbeing" that can be interpreted to give councils wide scope for action. See LGA report.
