EU ozone-depleter plan "must phase out HFCs"
European commission proposals to further tighten EU controls on ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) do not go far enough, according to the Environmental investigation agency (EIA), an NGO that campaigns against illegal trade in the substances (EED 04/08/08). In a reaction to plans unveiled earlier this month, EIA welcomes stronger measures to restrict HCFCs. But it claims that without a "serious commitment" to phase out those HFCs that also cause global warming, it is "unlikely that the enormous potential climate and ozone savings will be achieved". See EIA reaction.
