Poland sets out draft long-term energy strategy
Poland's economy ministry has released for public consultation a draft national energy strategy for the period until 2030. Its main goals would be to achieve "zero-energy economic growth", in which new growth occurs with no extra energy consumption, and to reach energy efficiency standards attained by the EU-15 in 2005. It urges new nuclear capacity but says most energy should be produced from domestic sources, of which coal is the most important. The strategy assumes Poland would meet national greenhouse emission and renewable energy targets proposed by the European commission in January (EED 23/01/08). See draft energy strategy (Polish).
