UN group issues draft green biofuel standard
A group of UN experts last week issued the first draft of a proposed new global sustainability standard for assessing the economic, social and environmental effects of biofuels. The Roundtable on sustainable biofuels (RSB) says they are based on a comprehensive "land to tank" analysis spanning the entire chain of biofuel production. It wants the standard to be used by investors, governments and firms to analyse the sustainability of different biofuels. Campaign group WWF said the standard would allow stakeholders to "sort the green from the ungreen". See RSB, UN news release and WWF reaction.
