EU battery waste law transposition date passes
The deadline for EU states to transpose the 2006 battery waste directive passed on Friday. The law makes producers responsible for financing waste treatment, fixes targets for collecting and recycling different battery types, and limits hazardous material content (EED 27/09/06 and EED 09/07/08). The European commission said only seven countries - Estonia, Spain, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria and Slovenia - had fully met the deadline, while Ireland, Lithuania, Poland and Finland had partially transposed the law. See European commission press release, Q&A memo and battery pages.
