EU consults on risk assessment of carcinogens

The European commission has launched a consultation on a draft opinion by three EU scientific committees on risk assessment methods for carcinogenic and mutagenic substances.  The committees were asked to identify harmonised approaches for assessing such substances, but the draft opinion concludes that "each compound requires a case-by-case approach".  The deadline for submissions is 2 December. Meanwhile, the EU has issued a draft impact assessment for the chemical 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (EPTAC) used principally in paper production.  See public consultation and draft risk assessment.
