Italian green public procurement lags behind

Italy's public offices in 2007 sourced only 8-10 per cent of goods and services from green providers, according to an article in the latest issue of Italian magazine Altreconomia.  This means they will fall short of a 30 per cent national target for 2009, and a 50 per cent non-binding EU goal for 2010 (EED 16/07/08), it estimates.  Italy issued its green public procurement (GPP) action plan in April 2008 – two years after the EU deadline (EED 04/11/05).  Public procurement in Italy is worth an annual €115 billion.
