UK tardiness on radioactive waste slammed
A UK parliamentary committee has savaged continuing uncertainty over Britain's long-term radioactive waste policy. In a report published on Friday, the committee said it was astonished and dismayed at the government's "lack of urgency". In 2001 the environment ministry ditched all previous efforts to start afresh (EED 12/09/01), eventually establishing a new radioactive waste committee this year. The parliamentary report criticises this committee's "astonishingly vague" terms of reference. It urges the government not to allow uncertainty over waste to prevent consideration of the role of nuclear power in combatting climate change. See report.
