Ireland keeps pace with rising waste trend

Ireland managed to achieve further increases in the percentage of municipal and packaging waste recycled in 2003, despite a 10% year-on-year jump in municipal waste generation, according to statistics released on 23 December. A report from the national environmental protection agency shows that 28% of municipal waste was recycled (all the rest being landfilled), as was 42% of packaging waste. Fully 69% of Irish waste recycling took place outside Ireland.
