Green light for Danish feed phosphorus tax
The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it will not raise state aid objections to a Danish tax on phosphorus in animal feed. The measure was approved by the national parliament last year (EED 26/05/04). Danish pig farmers, the group that will be most affected by the measure, had protested that arable farmers would unfairly benefit since tax revenues are to be recycled through reduced land tax. The tax should now take effect by 1 April, a tax ministry official told ENDS Europe DAILY (EED 26/05/04). See press release and Danish tax proposal.
