UK urged to push G8 climate change action
A think tank has urged Britain to use its chairmanship of the G8 group of nations to push forward global action on climate change. A taskforce led by senior British and US politicians and advised by the UN's senior climate scientist recommends that all G8 countries should target 25% renewable electricity by 2025. It calls for a doubling of R&D into zero carbon technologies by 2010 and creation of a G8-Plus climate group to pursue technology agreements and engage America and major developing nations in greenhouse gas emission cuts.
