Eco-firms attack "pollution scaremongering"
London-based eco-industries lobby the Environmental industries commission (EIC) last week launched a campaign to counter "scaremongering" over environmental rules by polluting industries. These sectors "consistently exaggerate" the costs of pollution control, EIC alleged, taking up an argument also made frequently by EU environmental groups (EED 29/04/04). EIC pledged to expose cases of industry scaremongering and to build a coalition of beneficiaries of environmental regulation. It also called for "full attention" to be paid to economic benefits of green rules in pre-regulatory impact assessments. See press releases one and two.
