France promises radioactive waste debate
The French government will this autumn launch a public consultation on long-term disposal options for high and medium-level radioactive waste, ministers announced on Thursday. It will be run by the independent national commission on public debate, based on a white paper to be issued beforehand. At the beginning of 2006 the government is to issue a draft law on radioactive waste management, in line with a timetable laid down in legislation passed in 1991 (EED 05/02/98). See press release.
