Commission to resubmit RoHS exemption plan

The European Commission is to restart a committee procedure to agree exemptions from substance bans due to enter force in July 2006 under the restrictions on hazardous substances in electronics (RoHS) directive. The development follows European parliament complaints that it had not been accorded its right of scrutiny over the plans. There is no indication that the Commission will amend the proposals, nor that member states will change their position. The Commission made a similar move earlier this month on restrictions under the end-of-life vehicles directive (EED 11/02/05). See Commission letter to parliament.
