EU court: Finland missed port law deadline

The European court of justice has ruled against Finland for missing a July 2003 deadline to transpose EU maritime safety legislation into national law (EED 31/03/04). This judgement is the court's first on a 2001 directive updating earlier port state control legislation, setting standards for inspection of ships docking in the EU in a bid to prevent pollution. Finland says it notified the Commission of transposition measures in July last year, but the court ruled that this was too late to ward off a negative judgement. See judgement.
