Hike demanded in green energy research funding
Europe's renewable energy industry has demanded a big increase in EU research funding in the sector. Renewable energy organisations Erec and Eurec called for the forthcoming 7th research programme (FP7) to allocate €250m per year to renewables, compared with €90-€100m now (EED 11/11/02). They also pleaded for a separate renewables budget line to avoid confusion with spending in fields such as energy efficiency, hydrogen and carbon sequestration. The European Commission is due to propose more details of FP7 next month. See press release and report, plus European Commission pages on FP7.
