European tractor emission curbs to enter force
Strengthened EU limits on air pollution from agricultural and forestry tractors will take legal effect on 21 March. A directive published in the bloc's official journal on 1 March introduces three waves of stricter controls along the same lines as an EU law agreed last year on other non-road mobile machinery and inland waterway vessels (EED 19/03/04). The directive was agreed through EU committee procedures. It offers manufacturers some flexibility over compliance with the stricter limits, which focus on cutting emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx). See directive 2005/13/EC.
