Italy presents its emissions trading plan
Italy has handed its national allocation plan (Nap) for the EU emission trading scheme to the European Commission, 11 months after the deadline, Reuters reported on Thursday. Italy's Nap caps industrial carbon emissions at 255m tonnes per year in the first trading period of 2005-7, compared with actual emissions of 228m tonnes in 2000. The Italian environment ministry adds that 1,210 industrial installations will be covered by the plan, and that a further 64m tonnes of CO2 are being set aside for new installations.
