Norway tries to tame wind power boom
Norwegian environment minister Knut Arild Hareide has told local and regional authorities that the government is to draw up guidelines for wind power development. The move follows several years of rapid expansion in the industry, creating what Dagsavisen newspaper described on Thursday as "Klondike conditions" and leading to increasingly strident protests by conservationists and citizens affected by the wind farms. The guidelines will aim at securing a "unified and long-term" approach to planning issues, and will include provisions for "conflict resolution", the ministry said.
