Interest groups compete for EU leaders' ear
European industry and environmental experts have made contrasting pleas to EU leaders in the run up to their spring summit next week. Through the Alliance for a competitive European industry (ACEI), heavy industry associations called for the economy to be made "first priority" under the relaunched Lisbon strategy. An even wider group of 18 sector associations issued a similar declaration. Meanwhile, the European environment and sustainable development advisory councils (EEAC) urged leaders to back concrete post-2012 targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
