Report on EU road fuel quality issued
A report on EU road fuel quality in 2003 released by the European Commission has confirmed a strong trend towards low sulphur (50 parts per million) and sulphur-free (10ppm) petrol and diesel (EED 25/01/05). Excluding France, in 2003 the average sulphur content of petrol across the EU-15 was 31ppm and that of diesel 102ppm. Both figures were less than half their levels in 2001. Under EU law sulphur-free fuels must be made widely available by 2005 and universal by 2009. See report, ref: COM(2005)69.
