UK launches business resource efficiency drive
The UK environment ministry on Tuesday pledged UK£284m (€412m) over three years to help businesses in England increase their resource use efficiency. Drawing on increasing landfill tax revenues, the business resource efficiency and waste programme will target waste minimisation and diversion of waste from landfills, for example through research, market development and improved product design. Several existing organisations will administer the funds, which will rise to UK£146 annually by 2007. Britain's main business association welcomed the government's announcement. See press release.
