UK defers electroscrap directive implementation
The UK government has taken the unusual step of giving advance warning that it will miss an August deadline to implement EU electroscrap recycling legislation. A government announcement last week said Britain had "encountered major practical difficulties" in meeting the deadline for the Weee directive and will instead introduce its producer responsibility and equipment take-back provisions in January 2006. Germany has already decided on a similar delay, and the UK's announcement claims several other EU countries look likely to defer implementation (EED 10/03/05).
