EEB urges rewrite of EU services law
Campaign group EEB has added its voice to the chorus of demands to change the draft EU services directive, citing potential negative environmental consequences. In a letter to governments and MEPs the group says the European Commission's proposals could "legalise violations of national environmental laws and policies by foreign service providers". An impact assessment of the draft legislation has completely ignored the effects this would have, it says. Last month German environment minister Jürgen Trittin mounted his own attack on the directive, with support from several other countries (EED 10/03/05). See EEB press release and position paper.
