Swedish drinks deposit system to be expanded
Sweden is to expand its long-standing deposit-and-return system for aluminium cans and PET bottles to cover all plastic and metal packaging for ready-to-drink beverages, the environment ministry announced on Thursday. The change is in line with the government's wide-ranging ecocycle bill, which has been the basis for several items of legislation during the past two years (EED 04/04/03). Juice and dairy products containers will not be covered by the system pending action by the Swedish board of agriculture, the ministry added. See press release, and Swedish ecocycle policy (in English).
