Stakeholder views on biomass energy exposed
An analysis of responses to an EU consultation on boosting biomass energy reveals a wide range of ideas. The European Commission asked for public input earlier this year (EED 04/02/05). Among the 262 responses, fiscal measures to make bioenergy more attractive relative to fossil fuels are most frequently recommended. Other suggestions include harmonised quality standards for bioenergy products, a renewable heat directive (EED 07/04/05), revisions to EU farm policies, mandatory targets for biomass co-firing with coal, making transport biofuel targets mandatory, and integrating EU waste and renewable energy policies.
