WWF blood testing campaign blocked
WWF's family blood-testing campaign has stopped in Finland after the country's health ministry ruled that the project requires licensing as medical research, Swedish-language newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet reports (EED 12/10/04). This makes Finland the only one of 12 European countries unable to take part, and raises the prospect of volunteers travelling abroad to have their blood tested for industrial chemicals as "the world's first chemical refugees", a WWF spokeswoman told ENDS Europe DAILY on Monday. Tests on Finnish environment minister Jan-Erik Enestam last year discovered at least 38 man-made chemicals in his bloodstream. See article and Enestam article.
