French senate deletes wind farm limits
France's upper parliamentary house last week deleted a controversial plan to enable only larger wind farms to secure preferential feed-in tariffs for their electricity output. The national assembly had agreed the restriction due to concerns over the visual impacts if smaller wind farms proliferate across the country (EED 22/03/05). The senate voted unanimously to delete the threshold of 20 megawatts capacity per wind farm, though it said that local authorities should be able to set their own thresholds. See senate debate.
