Spanish transport plan "utterly unsustainable"
Spain's official Environmental advisory council (Cama) has called for "a radical revision" of a strategic transport plan presented in March (EED 22/03/05). In a report released this week it claims the 15-year plan will make it impossible for Spain to limit greenhouse gas emissions in line with Kyoto commitments, promote unsustainable road-building, delay implementation of environmental protection measures and breach EU nature conservation laws by not including adequate impact assessments for protected sites. The plan's environmental sustainability evaluation also breaches the EU strategic environmental assessment directive, it warns. See Cama report.
