Anti-GM groups issue coexistence blueprint
Environmentalists and regional authorities opposed to genetic modification (GM) in farming on Tuesday presented a wish list for possible future EU legislation governing coexistence between GM and non-GM crops. The move follows farm commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel's suggestion in February that the European Commission might consider tabling such a law, having previously always rejected the idea (EED 03/02/05). A ten-point list of demands tabled by Friends of the Earth Europe and the Assembly of European regions insists that regions should have the right to ban GM crops. See press release.
