EU energy products law cleared to enter force
The EU council of ministers has rubber-stamped a deal between governments and MEPs on legislation to force higher eco-design standards on manufacturers of a wide range of energy-using products (EuP). The EuP directive was agreed politically last month (EED 06/04/05). It will enter force on publication in the EU's official journal, paving the way for subsequent agreement of "implementing measures" setting specific standards for individual product groups. Separately, the council has also rubber-stamped a council-parliament deal on the sulphur content of marine fuel (EED 13/04/05). See EU education council minutes.
