New call for World environment organisation
Germany, France and Spain on Friday called for the UN environment programme to be transformed into a stronger World environment organisation. A joint statement by the three countries' environment ministers, supported by their heads of government, is designed to inject new momentum into the debate in the run-up to a global summit to review millennium development goals agreed by the international community in 2000. The proposal "is supported by an increasing number of industrial and developing countries including China," the ministers said. See statement and Friends of the Earth Europe reaction.
