European agency to assess green challenges

The European environment agency is to coordinate a project to assess the urgency of EU environmental challengses. As part of a broad stakeholder exercise, agency director Jacqueline McGlade hopes to engage European politicians, civil servants and business leaders. Part of the project will involve the "Copenhagen Consensus" methodology developed by Denmark's environmental assessment institute (EED 01/06/04). The institute's former chief, "sceptical environmentalist" Bjørn Lomborg, will participate. The EEA sees the exercise as in part a "challenge" to the validity of the Copenhagen Consensus approach, a spokeswoman told ENDS Europe DAILY on Monday. See Politiken newspaper.
